Healthy Snacking with Wholesome Pantry

March 13, 2018

I was sent some Wholesome Pantry samples to try at no charge, but all opinions are my own.

One of the biggest obstacles I face when it comes to my health is my love of snacking. Unfortunately, those snacks tend to include not-the-best-for-me things like chips and sweets. It’s become such an issue that I have taken to just not buying any kind of snack food. It’s true; if it’s in the house, it will get eaten.

The down side of not snacking is that it leads me to overeat come mealtime – also not good. The solution? Track down some healthier snack options, of course!

I was so excited to discover ShopRite’s new Wholesome Pantry line! A lot of moms out there have jumped on the healthy/organic bandwagon (with good reason), but I’ve been a holdout because I still like to eat like a kid sometimes. I am thrilled to report that several of the new line’s items make it possible to keep doing just that… with a healthy twist.

WP Energy Mix, Apple Crisps

Popcorn? Yes, please. Organic Crushed Pepper & Truffle Oil Popcorn? I mean, YES x 1,000,000! This stuff is so addicting, and it adds a grown-up twist to one of my family’s favorite snacks. I’m not normally big on black pepper, but I couldn’t stop eating these! I will admit that this truffle-loving mama didn’t taste a ton of it here, but that didn’t keep these from being really tasty.

Easily, my son’s favorite meal is a good old-fashioned PB & J. While that can be a reasonably healthy option, many popular nut butters also contain quite a bit of sugar. On the other hand, the ingredients in the Wholesome Pantry Salted Almond Butter are – drumroll – almonds and salt. That’s it. It might take him a minute to get used to the change, but I definitely think he will.

Another food I have to keep out of sight is potato chips. Given a bag of cheddar and sour cream chips, you will likely get back an empty bag of cheddar and sour cream chips. What’s that Pringles slogan? Once you pop you can’t stop? Yeah, that’s me. I most certainly did not expect the Wholesome Pantry Freeze Dried Fuji Apple Fruit Crisps to be a suitable replacement, but yet again once I popped, I legit could not stop. I even sprinkled them on a salad!

WP Popcorn, Nut Butter

There are a bunch of other great snack options in the Wholesome Pantry line, including nuts and trail mixes. I can’t promise I’ll never eat chips again, but this assortment of new snack options from ShopRite  will definitely make it easier to curb some of my bad snacking habits.

Do you have any other healthy snacking tips I should try? I’m still on the hunt for a viable replacement for my biggest weakness, milk chocolate, but one thing at a time…
